Dublin & Wales – Day 6 can be found here.
There are a truly incredible number of hiking paths to choose from in Snowdonia. But as we had dinner reservations we decided to choose a shorter walk on our drive back to Holyhead.
We decided that – after a moderate hike – an easy hike to a waterfall would be ideal. We could have a picnic lunch by Aber Falls since we’d packed sandwiches and snacks for our trip.
The contrast to the hike at Cwm Idwal could not have been greater. The temperature had soared (from about 8˚C to 25˚C) and this gravel pathway had almost no viewpoints (and a ton of biting insects).
The waterfall itself was beautiful. Better still, the spray got rid of most of the bugs. We definitely wished we’d brought towels so we could take a quick dip like the people in the photo below. Instead we contented ourselves with hopping across the stepping stones to reach a nice grassy spot way up high.
To try to give you a sense of the noise of the falls I’ve included a brief video.
Then it was an easy walk back to the car park and we headed back to Holyhead and dinner at The White Eagle. If you ever happen to find yourself in Anglesey looking for a meal I’d highly recommend this pub for the great food and the spectacular view from the outside deck.

We’ve had a fabulous time in Wales but tomorrow we’ll be back on the swift ferry to return to Dublin and embark on our Silversea Expedition adventure.
